Laboratory Measurements in Nuclear Astrophysics
After reviewing some of the basic concepts, nomenclatures and parametrizations of Astronomy, Astrophysics and Cosmology, we introduce a few central problems in Nuclear Astrophysics, including the hot-CNO cycle, helium burning and solar neutrino’s. We demonstrate that Secondary (Radioactive) Nuclear Beams allow for considerable progress on these problems.
متن کاملDense Plasmas, Nuclear Reactions and Astrophysics
A certain number of questions are raised to physicists and astrophysicists concerning : (1) the conditions under which stellar matter becomes a highly correlated plasma ; (2) the role of mass loss in the formation of dense matter ; (3) the evolution of white dwarfs accreting matter (with its consequences for the formation of compact X ray sources and pulsars) . 1 . Introduction. The solution of ...

Precise nuclear reaction rates are needed for a detailed description of the production of elements in primordial nucleosynthesis and during the hydrostatic burning of stars to constrain the astrophysical models. The relevant reactions are extremely difficult to measure directly in the laboratory at the small astrophysical energies. In recent years direct reactions methods have been developed an...
متن کاملLow Energy Nuclear Fusion Reactions in Solids
The DD fusion reactions in various materials have been studied, and enhancements in the rate of the D(d,p)T fusion reaction over the Gamow function were clearly seen in the materials. Of particular interest is the fact that the reaction rate of the D+D reactions at 2.5 keV in PdO is 60 times (and in Pd 10 times) larger than in Ti, and the deduced screening energy amounts to 600 eV (300 eV). Fur...

The quest for the origin of matter in the Universe had been the subject of philosophical and theological debates over the history of mankind, but quantitative answers could be found only by the scientific achievements of the last century. A first important step on this way was the development of spectral analysis by Kirchhoff and Bunsen in the middle of the 19th century, which provided first in...
